If you imagine a Wedding Planner’s own wedding as the most extravagant affair – overflowing with flowers, avant-garde decor, and every trending detail… … well, our story might surprise.
It all began when I was working on cruise ships around the world. A handsome Brazilian man approached me with his irresistible dance moves, and our chemistry was instant. But winning my heart? That took him some work!
As time passed, we fell deeply in love – until the cruise line assigned us to different ships: me to the Caribbean, him to the Baltic. We were certain about wanting to be together, but equally certain long-distance wasn’t for us. After a month of failed transfer requests, we did the unthinkable: we quit.
He embraced the idea of moving to Mexico – to Playa del Carmen, for tacos and tequila! Life was magical as we traveled across Mexico and even to Cuba. But after a year together, reality hit: as a foreigner, he’d have to leave the country.
One Wednesday night over tacos (of course), I proposed marriage – both out of love and practicality. What followed was pure magic: my coworkers transformed into fairy godmothers, securing professional makeup, a gorgeous dress, photography, and even last-minute decor help from my wedding planner friends.
Though we initially planned a simple courthouse wedding, my planner heart demanded something special. We exchanged vows by our pool with 12 close friends (our families joined via video call), surrounded by pizza, beer, and overwhelming love. It was imperfectly perfect – just like our story.
The Lesson?
True love isn’t about lavish weddings – it’s about bold choices, tacos-for-dinner proposals, and communities that become family. Now, we help couples create celebrations as authentic as our own.
